DPIIT-Recognised Startups Create Over 16.6 Lakh Jobs

Startups recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) have generated more than 16.67 lakh direct jobs across 55 industries as of October 2024. IT services lead the way with 2.04 lakh jobs, followed by healthcare and life sciences with 1.47 lakh jobs. The number of DPIIT-registered startups has grown from 300 in 2016 to 1.17 lakh in 2023, with 45% coming from Tier I and II cities. This growth is supported by various government initiatives and incubation centers.
