India installed a record-breaking 1.9 GW of rooftop solar capacity in the first nine months of 2024, a 45% increase from 2023, according to Mercom India. Gujarat led with 42% of installations, followed by Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. This growth was driven by the PM Surya Ghar scheme, which boosted residential installations to 85% of the total. The industrial, commercial, and government sectors contributed smaller shares. The CAPEX model accounted for 89% of installations. Experts highlight the need to resolve supply chain challenges to sustain this momentum.
